Feldenkrais Institute Northwest

My Approach to Care

As a Feldenkrais Practitioner, I am mainly a teacher, and my responsibility is to help you move forward by increasing your awareness of what is in your way and what you can do about it. We will work together to come up with solutions to enable you to use more of your own brain to work out what is best for you. While I will be aware of the issues you are facing, my focus will be on you as a complete person and how all of your being is affected by your condition. You may be focused on your neck pain and wonder why I am looking at other places on your body. Everything is connected, and how the different parts of you work together determines how whole and complete you will be.

We will begin with where you are and what you can currently do. After an initial assessment, we will begin to work on goals that you set and wish to accomplish. I will guide you along the way, but ultimately we are tapping into the innate intelligence of your brain, which knows what is best for you. There are no experts who can do for you what this innate intelligence can do. It controlls your heart rate, healing, your position in gravity, and it is your ultimate survival mechanism.

Our current medical model is one of experts who fix, and if you are like many of my clients, you have been to all of the “fixers” and few or none of them could help you. Broken bones and leaky heart valves need to be fixed, while many other challenges can only be overcome through education, introspection, and a commitment to change. My goal is to help you learn to trust yourself more and to empower you to take control of your own well-being.
